The La Pine Rocks! East Lake Fishing Derby planned for July 11, 2009 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for next year. Please join us in La Pine next year when we will celebrate our 100 year birthday!

The La Pine Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center and The Ford Family Foundation Leadership Group regret to announce that the “La Pine Rocks”
East Lake Fishing Derby planned for July 11, 2009 has been cancelled.

The event has the support of the Greater La Pine Community, many fishermen and officials, both local and regionally, as well as the approval of the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Department. East Lake Resort has also been a great supporter and has offered to assist in any way.

East Lake is a very special area which makes it a wonderful location to experience a high-quality fishing derby. But… it has come to our attention that there is significant concern among Forest Service officials that a fishing derby in a National Monument may be in conflict with the government’s vision for the Monument. Apparently an extended application and lengthy review period will be required in order to consider final approval for an event of this nature in the National Monument. The USFS District Ranger Shane Jeffries has recommended making an application several months in advance of an anticipated event for next year.

Therefore, the decision to cancel this years’ East Lake Fishing Derby.

We would like to extend our appreciation to those who have dedicated their extensive time and energy in preparing and planning for the fishing derby.
We will be sending refunds immediately to those who have registered for the event. We also wish to thank those organizations and individuals who graciously donated prize items. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused. We will be contacting them regarding the return of those donated items.

All profits from this derby go to local non-profit community organizations.
